By "best ionic air purifiers", I do not mean using ozone air purifiers for your home! While some of these topics may apply to most air purifiers , in general (i.e., the commercial variety) as well, I don't alot concerning the non-residential type of air purifier.
I truly believe that WE ALL should own some type of ionic air purifier at our houses. For what reason you say? Well, there are a number of medical conditions which can be prevented by cleaning the air in your home:
Allergies
Asthma
Emphysema
Eye Irritation
Not to mention the ability to avoid some of these and other ailments:
Bacterial Infections (air borne): Airborne Bacterial Infections
Other conditions caused by microorganisms
Outstanding, but ozone air purifiers should never be used in living areas! How come? To see why you have to understand how they capture airborne contaminates. These purifiers actually create ozone gas... yes that's the identical gas you've been concerned about over the past decade, which most believe has single-handedly created global warming! Ozone air purifier manufacturers meant well though.
Ozone gas actually "cleans" the air very well. The gas actually reacts chemically with the contaminates in your home to kill micro-organisms and remove other contaminates from the air.
One problem though... ozone gas is actually harmful in large concentrations, not just to our environment, but to us directly as well. Why? Because similar to how ozone chemically reacts with organic material in the air, it also reacts chemically with organic material in us! With limited exposure, ozone irritates your respiratory system. This can cause symptoms like coughing, sore throat and even pain. Increased exposure will further limit your lung functions. This might lead to an increased probability of infections, difficulty breathing and even permanent lung damage. Exactly! So perhaps your house smells better and has fewer organisms floating through the air, but you can hardly take in the new fresher air because you now have emphysema!?
That's not a trade off I'm willing to make.... What's your take?
