We wanted to buy a king size mattress but after reading about all the awful chemicals the government requires to be put on new mattresses, we began looking into more natural alternatives. We decided that a natural latex mattress was the best choice, except they typically cost over $1700! Eight months ago, we bought a king size 4″ ErgoSoft mattress topper. We set it on the floor and covered it with a waterproof mattress pad.
It smelled a little funny and was too hard for a day or two. By the end of the first week, it had softened up and we knew we had made the right choice. It’s by far the most comfortable bed we’ve ever had.
Looking back, I think the 3″ topper would’ve been thick enough, perhaps even the 2″. For a child, I’d say a 2″ seems like it would be thick enough.
Overall, this topper is good enough to be used alone, without a mattress. We saved over $1000 and spared ourselves the exposure of toxic chemicals by going with this product.
