I can’t help it if you are lazy.
Let me get this straight. All that work, effort, cost to only power 2 lights?! LOL
nice, unlike some who don’t think through things like venting the battery gas (hydrogen). One thought-make sure to connect metal parts to your grounding electrode system for the house with a suitably large, and straight conductor to help avoid bringing a lightning strike in to your house. people may think the national electrical code too “picky” but it didnt just pop up out of a vacuum to make your life miserable, it has grown in response to fires, electrocutions and fire fatalities.
After watching your video’s…. no way man!!
You are going to nit pick me……pick on somebody your own size!!! Hahha
Hi Rick, nice work on the video. I have a quick question for you about it, but I can’t find your email on your site. What’s the best way to contact you? -JIm
I was on a forum that belongs to a store that sells solar panels and all I heard from the mods was what a nightmare it could be building your own panels and using wood because you could burn down your own house(self interest or truth?). They were talking about the wood(panel frame) twisting from heating and cooling and breaking the cells and busses causing a fire. Could anyone here who has had experience with DIY panels installed for more than a year give their opinion. Thanks.
Would’ve but ive only been looking into solar energy for about 3 days, thats what i found yesterday. today found 15w for $30 but its amorphous not mono, hmm
Cool….I will check it out!!!!
Thats what I wanted to hear today!! Thanks……….Rick.
Great video, I’ve made some video tutorials witch can help peoples to build their own renewable energy systems at home. 63 W solar panel and a wind turbine from an AC electric motor witch has been modified to produce electricity. If you want, you can have a look : eco-energy-systems . com . Delete the spaces to make it active. Good job uploader!
It isn’t always about being cost effective. If you draw less power from the grid, and the grid power comes from a polluting type source (i.e. coal) then you are doing your bit for the environment.
Well done.
You should have told me sooner.
That’s a great deal.
Everyone search “15w solar panel” in google shopping and find the one for $40!!! Buy 3 for $120, a 7A charge controller for $25 and a 12v around $30. So thats around $175 for basically the same system at harbor freight with a battery but without the lights or crappy inverter, which can be bought cheaply online. This could easily run the most used lights in your home and save even more $. Hope I helped someone.
Haha,
Thanks…I am using 16 watt bulbs now & that small TV…….I have a wood stove …so when the power goes out we are OK….I would like to get a solar water heater then I would be almost off the grid………Rick.
@london1817 – It’s cool, I like them too. Part 2 is great, using its potential.
I just thought it was a good back up.
I like them.
I don’t think I have ever bought anything I broke even on……….maybe beer.
At a rate of 7.2cents/kWh (avg TOU prices per 24hrs[my rate])
(2×5W) x 24hours = 0.24kWh
0.24 x 365 days = 87.6kWh year
87.6 x 7.2 cents = 630.72 cents ($6.31)
So if those 2 lights were on 24/7 for 1 year, it would cost $6 and 31 cents to power.
$250/$6.31 = 39.62 years to break even. (excluding maintenance/repairs)
Cool setup, but in reality it’s costing money. Up the battery count and use them to run the dishwasher or something that sucks the juice! Just needs an inverter.
How much do you have in your savings accout right now?
How long ’till you save $250 on those monster 5 watt bulbs you got goin’?
No problem man!
Wood doesn’t hurt batteries.
Are you sure the batteries in the wooden case is a good idea ? I’m just curious, don’t have any clue about things like that really.
Hey thanks…What is his link???
David long is coping your videos
You are soo right!!
I just got a winch for my suzuki samurai.
I love walking around checking out stuff there…Hahaha…that was a great deal on that welding helmet!!! good score!!
HARBOR FREIGHT!
I love them. I got a ton of tools from them.
I had no idea they sold solar panels.
I got an auto-changing welding helmet for $30 bucks when they are 120+ else where.
