This knife and the Shun brand in general has been one of the most pleasant and consistent experiences of my cooking life. From the box to the block, every single Shun knife has been sharp, balanced and effective. The 6-inch Classic chef is no exception. An occasional and I very much mean occasional pass on a sharpening steel is all any of my “Classic” knives have needed. I have worked over my Henckel’s so many times I’ve exhausted myself. Certainly a bit of an exaggeration, but compared to my Shuns, that’s pretty much the truth. I highly recommend all of the Shun Classic line, but of course, as with any knife, definitely get somewhere and get your hands on the knife you are about to purchase to make sure the grip and balance are right for you….

Most importantly, this knife is very comfortable to hold and use. The factory edge it came with was amazing, and lets face it – it just looks cool – it’s a shame I have to store it in a knife block where I can’t see the whole knife all the time.

Over the years, we have purchased several high quality kitchen knives. We have Sabtier (ones from France), Wusthof and Henckels professional knives. We already owned two different size chefs’ knives. When we saw the reviews on Shun knives, we decided to buy one. One of our best “kitchen” decisions we have ever made. It has become our favorite knife and we ordered a second to give to my sister.

I have a couple of Shun utility knives in the stainless steel line. This is my first Shun classic, and my first Shun chef knife. I already knew it would be sharp just like my other Shun knives. This one with the wood handle is beautiful to look at. The size is just right for my small hand. The size is perfect for most everyday cooking.
