Please, please, if you do decide to purchase this product, be aware of my experience. *If you hear an unexplainable faint clicking noise, check the inside of the device by removing the filter cover (in a dark area, of course) for defective wiring that causes audible sparks.*

I was going to put this in my infant son’s room, but instead wanted to test it in a hallway beforehand. For a couple of days I would hear a faint clicking sound but dismissed it. Finally, one night I discovered it was this purifier that was sparking consistently, creating the clicking noise.

I understand this may have been a fluke. But certaintly, you wouldn’t want anything in your house to be sparking around your CHILD, especially while you are all ASLEEP. What would happen if someone were to touch the insides with wet hands while it was plugged in?! Well, I didn’t want to find out, so I returned it promptly.

I couldn’t possibly disagree more with the one reviewer who gave only one star and a horrible review.

FIRST OF ALL – I first purchased from Amazon the HONEYWELL COMPACT AIR PURIFIER (MODEL # HHT-011). I liked it and wanted to buy another one. I then saw this Vics model that looked EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ONE SITTING IN FRONT OF MY COMPUTER.

I took the risk for the MUCH LOWER PRICE and ordered the Vicks model. TURNS OUT THEY ARE REALLY – TRULY – EXACTLY THE SAME/IDENTICAL PRODUCT … with only 2 Differences.

    1. The little inverted triangular decorative plastic tab was colored blue/green to match the Vicks brand, while the Honeywell was the same color as the off white unit.

    2. The ‘art work’ and colors on the cardboard box were totally different, the exactly the same size/shape/type as the more expensive Honeywell. The smaller closeup pictures and descriptions on the sides WERE EXACTLY THE SAME.

ANYWAY … I would actually only give the unit a 4 star rating overall – that would apply to the Honeywell and Vicks units equally. I have terrible allergies that come and go and it is hard to tell how much good they purifiers actually do for me. But READ THE REVIEWS FOR THE HONEYWELL model and base your decision on that … if you are considering this purchase.

btw – I just ordered 2 (two) more of the Vicks units today to add to my current 2 … one for each room.

THIS IS MADE BY KAZ USA. Interesting they rarely brand their items with their own name. OVER A YR AND A HALF AGO, they bought SLANT FIN PURI-CLEAR 55 business, the perfect air purifier for a nursery. SO FAR, THEY REFUSE TO MAKE FILTERS. GUESS THEY EXPECT FOLKS TO CAVE and buy this thing instead. DON’T DO IT. The air purifier ability is sub-par. With the SLANT FIN- the 3M Filtrete dual pre filter did an EXCELLENT JOB. With this it just didn’t work as well and with this thing there is a “washable” filter. COME ON. The footprint is also larger and the unit is more noisy.

IF KAZ had any sense they would continue to make the superior product they bought from SLANT FIN! But wait, this is KAZ, they like to buy BRANDS and then cheapen them. FOLKS think they are buying quality because the brand has such a good reputation but hold on, the brand is just a badge, the actual product is KAZ.

Out of desperation (since KAZ refuses to make filters for the Slant Fin I have used for years with total satisfaction) I found a store that sold their ‘comparable’ unit, figured I should at least see WHY KAZ refuses to make the SLANT FIN! The VICKS purifier won’t be coming to my home! My advice – stay away from anything KAZ’d.

Wish I had the money to buy the rights to the SLANT FIN and get that CHINESE manufacturer making filters! One last note: KAZ marketing campaign for this unit neglects to inform that ionizers should be turned off in a nursery -personally I think they are a BAD IDEA ALL TOGETHER, they create ozone and can harm us. Not a great idea for a nursery at all or anyone at any age with breathing issues or anyone who wishes to stay clear of developing breathing issues. The Slant Fin had lights in the face plate so one could easily know the ionizer was OFF. This thing has some dial on the top of it. Lastly, the SLANT FIN had a compartment to accept a fragrance pouch, a wonderful idea, even if used only ocassionally. This product doesn’t have that feature. This Vicks unit costs virtually the same as the SLANT FIN did. VALUE? – I think NOT.
